Home News Secures support from visitscotland

Local support comes from leading businesses across the region, including; Buccleuch Estates, Cream o’Galloway, Gillespie Leisure, McMillan Hotels, World Famous Blacksmiths Shop, Rusko Holidays, Globe Inn and around 50 smaller businesses.  Destination Dumfries & Galloway Chair Liz Chambers said, “We are delighted with the strong support we have received from businesses throughout Dumfries and Galloway and the public sector agencies.   This is extremely encouraging for the inaugural marketing campaign”.

Destination Dumfries & Galloway is a private sector led group which aims to establish Dumfries and Galloway as Scotland’s premier rural creative tourism destination.  Research has identified key drivers in the appeal of Dumfries and Galloway and activity will focus on the work of internationally renowned artists; world standout cultural projects and events such as the Spring Fling and the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park.

The aim of the campaign is to present Dumfries and Galloway as a uniquely creative destination with real stand out encouraging visitors to stay longer and spend more.  The campaign will utilise PR, media advertising in Glasgow and Newcastle, a new campaign website and on-line marketing as well as tying in with the VisitScotland Perfect Day campaign and concentrating on the short breaks market.

Sandi Hellowell, VisitScotland’s regional director, said;
“In order to compete in a global marketplace it is essential the private and public sector partners align activity wherever possible to maintain high levels of expenditure in marketing.  The Growth Fund award provides opportunities to achieve this for Dumfries and Galloway ensuring our Spring campaigns are complementary and providing clear messages to the visitor.”

DD&G has also benefited from a £35,000 funding package from Dumfries and Galloway Council.  Approximately half of this will be used to contribute to the Spring into Summer marketing campaign.
